FACING UPS AND DOWNS WITH THE LOVE OF GOD

In today's world of changes, people are in search of pleasure and doesn't want to take up pain. When pleasure comes, they get cheered receiving it with complete acceptance. Whereas in turn when a pain or sorrow occurs, they weep behind, trying to get rid of it as soon as possible. There exists an instability in their nature of facing things in life. Man must aim at taking good and bad things alike.Like the two sides of a coin, pleasure and pain are just the two parts of life.

Many people forget god when they are happy. But whenever a trouble occurs, they fall into the feet of the lord for help. This is not the dharma. Devotion to god must be present throughout our life especially during the thickest and thinnest moments of life.

When we don't know how to get through a situation that feels overwhelming, our heart cries out for help. We turn to prayer and spiritual practices to find comfort and meaning, and yet sometimes it is so difficult to really feel ourselves held in God’s loving embrace. God plays games with us to test our devotion towards him. The more we struggle the situation telling His name, the more closer He comes towards us.

Enormous Devotion to God can be cultivated if we practice the habit of constant prayers, everyday. Allot some time everyday for the worship of the Lord; Place your hand upon your heart; Breathe into your heart; Open yourself to the feelings you are experiencing; Talk freely to Him; Tell Him all of your troubles and sorrows; thank Him for everything he had done and is doing for you; Pray for blessings, strength, healing, nourishment, and ask Him everything you want. This deep prayer will not only reach God but also light up the whole confidence in you. You will feel relaxed after the conversation with the Lord.A sense of happiness and courage on feeling that He, the Almighty has listened to your voice and is with you Always and Forever will make you do wonders in your life . Remember one thing:

"If god helps you in some problem, thank him for His help
and if He doesn't help you in a problem, then understand that He wants you
to face it and win it Yourself"

Your prayers will never go unanswered and so, never lose your hope and never fail to pray Him.After all we are His children. God never Fails !

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA:CHICAGO SPEECH-CONCLUDING ADDRESS:

CONCLUDING ADDRESS - Chicago, Sept 27, 1893:

The World's Parliament of Religions has become an accomplished fact, and the merciful Father has helped those who laboured to bring it into existence, and crowned with success their most unselfish labour. My thanks to those noble souls whose large hearts and love of truth first dreamed this wonderful dream and then realized it. My thanks to the shower of liberal sentiments that has overflowed this platform. My thanks to this enlightened audience for their uniform kindness to me and for their appreciation of every thought that tends to smooth the friction of religions. A few jarring notes were heard from time to time in this harmony. My special thanks to them, for they have, by their striking contrast, made general harmony the sweeter.Much has been said of the common ground of religious unity. I am not going just now to venture my own theory. But if any one here hopes that this unity will come by the triumph of any one of the religions and the destruction of the others, to him I say, "Brother, yours is an impossible hope." Do I wish that the Christian would become Hindu? God forbid. Do I wish that the Hindu or Buddhist would become Christian? God forbid. The seed is put in the ground, and earth and air and water are placed around it. Does the seed become the earth, or the air, or the water? No. It becomes a plant. It develops after the law of its own growth, assimilates the air, the earth, and the water, converts them into plant substance, and grows into a plant.Similar is the case with religion. The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth. If the Parliament of Religions has shown anything to the world, it is this: It has proved to the world that holiness, purity and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world, and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character. In the face of this evidence, if anybody dreams of the exclusive survival of his own religion and the destruction of the others, I pity him from the bottom of my heart, and point out to him that upon the banner of every religion will soon be written in spite of resistance: "Help and not fight," "Assimilation and not Destruction," "Harmony and Peace and not Dissension."

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA: CHICAGO SPEECH- WELCOME ADDRESS

WELCOME ADDRESS:

(Swami Vivekananda's famous speech at the Parliament of the World's religions that took place at chicago , USA on september 11, 1893.)

"Sisters and Brothers of America,
It fills my heart with joy unspeakable to rise in response to the warm and cordial welcome which you have given us. I thank you in the name of the most ancient order of monks in the world; I thank you in the name of the mother of religions, and I thank you in the name of millions and millions of Hindu people of all classes and sects. My thanks, also, to some of the speakers on this platform who, referring to the delegates from the Orient, have told you that these men from far-off nations may well claim the honor of bearing to different lands the idea of toleration. I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth. I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the Israelites, who came to Southern India and took refuge with us in the very year in which their holy temple was shattered to pieces by Roman tyranny. I am proud to belong to the religion which has sheltered and is still fostering the remnant of the grand Zoroastrian nation. I will quote to you, brethren, a few lines from a hymn which I remember to have repeated from my earliest boyhood, which is every day repeated by millions of human beings: "As the different streams having their sources in different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee."The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: "Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me." Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilization and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now. But their time is come; and I fervently hope that the bell that tolled this morning in honor of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the same goal."

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL MEDITATION

1.Meditate Everyday:

It is good to make it a practice of meditating daily, rather than an improper schedule. Allot a proper time everyday for meditation so that it becomes a habit that helps you in the long run. Further it is better to meditate twice a day, during early morning and evening. however it is not at all limited to any of these time tables . Whenever you find yourself with some free time–even a few minutes–during the day, sit and meditate. Every little bit certainly does help.

2.Duration:

The duration for meditation is not specific. The more you meditate, the more you are benefitted. But start with a modest time of around 10-15 mins. Make sure you don't strain yourself to meditate. It is always a general mistake of doing meditation for some days at the beginning and then, gradually taking it out of your schedule. This usually happens if you are not careful with your mind and do not have proper self control. It is always better to make meditation a practice, slowly and steadily.

3.Keep it within:
The calmness and clarity of mind, obtained due to meditation must not be dissipated by talking about it to others. The experiences gained in meditation are not only subtle, they are very fragile, as delicate as a glass, and speaking about them can shatter their beneficial effects. Bragging, eulogizing, and swapping notes about meditation experiences is a very harmful activity. So it must be avoided. However you can tell everyone about the importance of meditation and how it helps you in very general terms.

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Whenever a person comes across the word "meditation", the usual questions that may arise to them are : "what is meditation ? what is the use of meditation ? how to meditate ? what are the ways to succeed in meditation ?...." and many more.

First let us all know: what is meditation?
Meditation can be explained both spiritually and scientifically. In spiritual way, it is the bridge between you and the Almighty.A person interested in liberation from this material world has to undergo deep meditation for ages in order to attain God. Scientifically Meditation can be explained as the relaxation of mind from unnecessary stresses and thoughts. It makes you more relaxed and confident while carrying out your daily activities.

what is the use of meditation ?
Whenever a person meditates, his energy starts conserving; the nervous system gets relaxed ; the blood flow becomes uniform; breathing becomes normal; pulse rate becomes normal;the mind gets more and more stable. As a result the entire body is benefitted, especially the mind. The mind gets relieved from external fears and phantoms. As a result the person finds new ideas and new ways of solving problems. This boosts up the self confidence and morale of the person.Irrespective of the nature of person, place, gender, age and religion, meditation does good for everyone. Even a small kid, or an old person can be benefitted through meditation.
how to meditate ?
Meditation can be done in many ways. The simplest and the most convenient method could be this:
  1. First of all, find a place free from external disturbances(if any) such as noise, other persons, etc.
  2. Get yourself into a suitable position that gives you comfort and at the same time doesn't make you feel sleepy. As far as possible try to sit down somewhere and do not lie down.
  3. Close your eyes so that you could gain some concentration and relax your body.Do not keep your body tight, or else you might get tired after sometime.
  4. Try to make your mind free from thoughts(perhaps the most toughest task, that needs a lot of practice). When you are new to meditation, this is however difficult. Please make sure that you donot strain yourself to get rid of thoughts,as this leads to increase in restlessness.
  5. During this time, you can also meditate on your favorite god. It is also good to have a chanting machine or a tape recorder by your side for repeated chanting of the Lord's name. For beginners, this method is effective to gain concentration and self control.
  6. At beginning stages, start meditation for approximately 10-15 minutes and you can gradually increase this duration, as time passes by. Do not try to meditate more than half an hour while you are at beginning stage because your body could not resist such a sudden change in your behaviour at that time.Perhaps you can very well meditate longer when you have practiced it for a certain period of time.
  7. The best schedule for meditation can be two hours a day which can be splitted as 1 hour in the early morning and 1 hour in the evening.
what are the ways to succeed in meditation ?
Success in meditation is not absolute. It is the path to reach the infinity. The effectiveness of meditation decides whether we are on the path to success or not. To find whether a person is in the path of success in meditation, one has to compare and analyze the changes that had occured in their lives before and after practicing meditation. The impact of meditation will surely be a successful path in everyone's life which can well be realized after a certain period of time.
Note:
At the beginning meditation is a hard nut to crack. But as days pass by, the essence of meditation can be realized. Patience and endurance is all that is needed to enter the path of success.
" let the art of meditation bestow the path of enlightenment upon you !"
