Great Ways to Live

I was inspired when i read the book titled: 'The Monk Who sold his ferrari" written by Robin.s.Sharma. It gave me a new outlook of life, and great spiritual ideas. Recently i came across some materials on the net, which was also a work by the same author and titled: The Top 200 Secrets of Success and the Pillars of Self-Mastery
By Robin S. Sharma (Author of “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”).

Inspired just by the name of the author, i started reading the book. It contained lots and lots of precious information about how to lead a peaceful and a stress-free life. It contained 200 points on how to lead a life, and some of the best ones which inspired me, i'm sharing below:

  • Set aside one hour every morning for personal development matters. Meditate, visualize your day, read inspirational texts to set the tone of your day, listen to motivational tapes or read great literature. Take this quiet period to vitalize and energize your spirit for the productive day ahead. Watch the sun rise once a week or be with nature. Starting the dayoff well is a powerful strategy for self-renewal and personal effectiveness.

  • Always remember the key principle that the quality of your life is the quality of your communication. This means the way you communicate with others and, more importantly, the way you communicate with yourself. What you focus on is what you get. If you look for the positive this is what you get. This is a fundamental law of Natur

  • Learn to meditate effectively. The mind is naturally a very noisy machine which wants to move from one subject to another like an unchained monkey. One must learn to restrain and discipline it if one is to achieve anything of substance and to be peaceful. Meditation for twenty minutes in the morning and twenty minutes in the evening will certainly provide you with exceptional results if regularly practiced for six months. Learned sages of the East have been advancing the many benefits of meditation for over 5000 years.

  • Associate only with positive, focused people who you can learn from and who will not drain your valuable energy with complaining and uninspiring attitudes. By developing relationships with those committed to constant improvement and the pursuit of the best that life has to offer, you will have plenty of company on your path to the top of whatever mountain you seek to climb.

  • No one can insult or hurt you without your permission. One of the golden keys to happiness and great success is the way you interpret events which unfold before you. Highly successful people are master interpreters. People who have attained greatness have an ability which they have developed to interpret negative or disempowering events as positive challenges which will assist them in growing and moving even farther up the ladder of success. There are no negative experiences only experiences which aid in your development and toughen your character so that you may soar to new heights. There are no failures, only lessons.

  • Be soft as a flower when it comes to kindness but tough as thunder when it comes to principle. Be courteous and polite at all times but never be pushed around. Ensure thatyou are always treated with respect.

  • Stress is simply a response which you create in the interpretation of an event. Two people might find that a given event results in quite different responses. For xample, an after dinner speech might strike fear into the heart of an inexperienced speaker while a strong orator views it as a wonderful opportunity to share his thoughts. Understanding that the perceived negative effects of an event or task may be mentally manipulated and conditioned towards the positive, will allow you to be a peak performer in all instances.

  • Empty your cup. A full cup cannot accept anything more. Similarly, a person who believes that he cannot learn anything else will stagnate quickly and not move to higher levels. A true sign of a secure, mature individual is someone who sees every opportunity as a chance to learn. Even the teachers have teachers.

  • Remain slightly aloof. Do not let everyone know everything about you. Cultivate a mystique.

  • Try entering a 5 km running race and then a 10 km event. The adrenaline that flows from the experience of racing with several hundred other fitness-minded people is exhilarating. By constantly pushing the envelope of your capacity, your potential will quickly unfold. Remember, the body will give you only what you ask of it.

  • Two of the fundamentals for a happy, joyful life are balance and moderation. One must maintain a balance of all activities and do nothing to extremes.

  • Make a list of all your weaknesses. A truly confident and enlightened person will note a weakness and seek to methodically improve. Bear in mind that even the greatest and most powerful people have weaknesses. Some are better than others in hiding them. On the other hand, get to know your best qualities and cultivate them.

  • It has been rightly said that "you sow an action, you reap a habit. You sow a habit, you reap a character. You sow a character, you reap a destiny." The essence of a person is his character - make yours unique, unblemished and strong. Do not say you will do anything unless you will indeed do it. Speak the truth and measure your words wisely. Be humble, straightforward and peaceful

  • Remember this ancient Indian proverb: "if you conquer your mind, you conquer theworld."

  • Start your day off well. Before you get out of bed each morning, say a prayer or repeat your personal affirmation giving thanks for the day and all the positive things you will see and achieve. Make a conscious decision to make this the best day of your life and meet with pleasure, success and fun. If you believe it, it will most certainly happen. A timeless secret for lifelong success is to live each day as if it were your last.

How to get rid of Habits

Very often we find ourselves unable to win over certain situations in life, just because some behaviour inside us has become a part of our daily life. These are known as habits. At first, a single impulse enters our mind. It then gradually becomes a thought, which later replicates itself as action. And actions, when performed repeatedly, eventually become Habits.
Habits can be broadly classified as Good Habits and Bad habits. Many times in life we find ourselves being troubled much more by these Bad habits, rather than good ones. Now, let us see the various methods of getting rid of these Bad habits, as explained by H.H.Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
" The best way of getting rid of habits is to will them out of your mind at once ! Do not linger over them, lest your resolve weaken."
If your mind is strong, and if you surrender yourself to God, and forget the body, you will be able to maintain your freedom as a child of God. Make up your mind that no habit has a permanent hold on you.If your wisdom is strong, you can convince yourself in a second what you should do. Awaken the wisdom which revives the power of free will, enabling you to rise above the compulsive instincts of ordinary habits.
Wisdom is your salvation from habits. For example, if one tells a boy not to eat candies, he will want them more than ever. Suppose that when the boy grows up he has Diabetes, and his doctor tells him he will die if he eats more candy. It is his wisdom that tells him the Doctor is right, and that encourages him quickly to give up the candy habit of many years. Through wisdom man learns-sometimes.
Many people go on eating foods that they know are not good for them. But if you say, "i won't eat a food", thats the end of it. But as soon as you are convinced of the wisdom of doing a thing, nothing should be able to turn you away from doing it.You can install habits at will by the power of wisdom.
The mental habit-patterns of most people have become set, making it difficult for them to change. Those who keep their minds pliable through discipline and self-control can easily change.
Never let life beat you down. Beat Life ! If you have a strong will you can overcome all difficulties. Affirm, even in the midst of trials:
"Danger and i were born together, and i am more dangerous than danger"
-This is a truth you should always remember. Apply it and you will see that it works.
No habit is permanent and all these were not born with us ! If there are ways by which these habits could enter us, then there must surely be another way-out for these habits too. Discover the Way through wisdom and self-control. You are sure to succeed !

FACING UPS AND DOWNS WITH THE LOVE OF GOD

In today's world of changes, people are in search of pleasure and doesn't want to take up pain. When pleasure comes, they get cheered receiving it with complete acceptance. Whereas in turn when a pain or sorrow occurs, they weep behind, trying to get rid of it as soon as possible. There exists an instability in their nature of facing things in life. Man must aim at taking good and bad things alike.Like the two sides of a coin, pleasure and pain are just the two parts of life.

Many people forget god when they are happy. But whenever a trouble occurs, they fall into the feet of the lord for help. This is not the dharma. Devotion to god must be present throughout our life especially during the thickest and thinnest moments of life.

When we don't know how to get through a situation that feels overwhelming, our heart cries out for help. We turn to prayer and spiritual practices to find comfort and meaning, and yet sometimes it is so difficult to really feel ourselves held in God’s loving embrace. God plays games with us to test our devotion towards him. The more we struggle the situation telling His name, the more closer He comes towards us.

Enormous Devotion to God can be cultivated if we practice the habit of constant prayers, everyday. Allot some time everyday for the worship of the Lord; Place your hand upon your heart; Breathe into your heart; Open yourself to the feelings you are experiencing; Talk freely to Him; Tell Him all of your troubles and sorrows; thank Him for everything he had done and is doing for you; Pray for blessings, strength, healing, nourishment, and ask Him everything you want. This deep prayer will not only reach God but also light up the whole confidence in you. You will feel relaxed after the conversation with the Lord.A sense of happiness and courage on feeling that He, the Almighty has listened to your voice and is with you Always and Forever will make you do wonders in your life . Remember one thing:

"If god helps you in some problem, thank him for His help
and if He doesn't help you in a problem, then understand that He wants you
to face it and win it Yourself"

Your prayers will never go unanswered and so, never lose your hope and never fail to pray Him.After all we are His children. God never Fails !

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA:CHICAGO SPEECH-CONCLUDING ADDRESS:

CONCLUDING ADDRESS - Chicago, Sept 27, 1893:

The World's Parliament of Religions has become an accomplished fact, and the merciful Father has helped those who laboured to bring it into existence, and crowned with success their most unselfish labour. My thanks to those noble souls whose large hearts and love of truth first dreamed this wonderful dream and then realized it. My thanks to the shower of liberal sentiments that has overflowed this platform. My thanks to this enlightened audience for their uniform kindness to me and for their appreciation of every thought that tends to smooth the friction of religions. A few jarring notes were heard from time to time in this harmony. My special thanks to them, for they have, by their striking contrast, made general harmony the sweeter.Much has been said of the common ground of religious unity. I am not going just now to venture my own theory. But if any one here hopes that this unity will come by the triumph of any one of the religions and the destruction of the others, to him I say, "Brother, yours is an impossible hope." Do I wish that the Christian would become Hindu? God forbid. Do I wish that the Hindu or Buddhist would become Christian? God forbid. The seed is put in the ground, and earth and air and water are placed around it. Does the seed become the earth, or the air, or the water? No. It becomes a plant. It develops after the law of its own growth, assimilates the air, the earth, and the water, converts them into plant substance, and grows into a plant.Similar is the case with religion. The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth. If the Parliament of Religions has shown anything to the world, it is this: It has proved to the world that holiness, purity and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world, and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character. In the face of this evidence, if anybody dreams of the exclusive survival of his own religion and the destruction of the others, I pity him from the bottom of my heart, and point out to him that upon the banner of every religion will soon be written in spite of resistance: "Help and not fight," "Assimilation and not Destruction," "Harmony and Peace and not Dissension."
